Electrical Refurbishment of Fire Damaged Country House

Electrical Refurbishment of Fire Damaged Grade II Listed Country House.

We were appointed to carry out the electrical refurbishment of a 45 Acre Grade 2 listed Georgian Country House in Berkshire, following a major fire.

During the 24 month project, our experienced team of electricians undertook all necessary electrical works to refurbish the property, converting it from a fire-damaged wreck, back into a luxury home.

Acting Quickly to Reinstate Power.

The client had lost electrical supply to the property, so it was important that the initial survey was conducted quickly, and that a temporary electrical supply was put in place. We set up temporary site electrical supplies for the security team, gates, CCTV, and power connections for builders’ accommodation & welfare cabins. Within 10 days of the fire, our team had this up and running.

Key Work Carried Out:

Our design team put together a fully costed electrical specification for rewiring the property. Being a heritage building of Grade 2 listed status, the brief was to keep the electrical specification low key with audiovisual, security, and fire systems installed discreetly.

Work Included:

  • Detailed electrical survey to assess the fire damage and plan the rewire project.
  • Obtained costings and installed a new three-phase electrical supply to the property with the help of our subcontractor, SSE Power Distribution.
  • Enhanced protection against fire at source for all distribution and final circuits.
  • Design and installation of a new Grade A LD1 addressable fire detection and alarm system.
  • Coordinated the installation of new security systems via our specialist security subcontractor.
  • Installation of new access control and video intercom systems

Challenges Faced.

  • Extensive planning and surveying required for the unusual, historic building
  • Project coordination with other trades
  • Delays to our timeline, such as long delivery times for replacement oak beams for the carpentry team
  • Sensitive cable routing and installation methods within a listed building Electrical design arrangements to provide protection against fire for all distribution and final circuits whilst maintaining total discrimination and selectivity of RCDs across the whole installation
  • Rigorous health and safety planning to ensure the safety of our team and others.
