Will "it" let you down?

Will "it" let you down?

Whilst the issues behind last weeks’ CrowdStrike IT outage may be beyond the control of many businesses, the cost of disruption to those affected is still being counted.

Beyond having great IT support, small business owners can also manage other areas of their business infrastructure to help ensure reliability and productivity - as well as safety and compliance.

Electrical Main Switch powering a commercial building

If you own, occupy, or manage commercial premises and your operations rely on electricity to function, when was the last time your fixed electrical installation was inspected and tested?

Did you know that the electrical installation in a commercial building should be inspected and tested by a competent electrical inspector every 5 years? *

This work involves detailed visual inspection of your electrical system followed by a series of tests to determine whether the installation is in safe condition. The results are documented in an Electrical Installation Condition Report.

Whilst an EICR is an important compliance tool for H&S and insurance purposes with the primary focus on safety, it can also form part of best practice preventative maintenance. If done well, it can help spot problems before they affect business operations. These can be put right at a time of your choosing, rather than letting you down when you need it least - trying to deliver your services or meet a deadline.

If you don’t know when your fixed wiring was last tested, look at your electrical distribution board – there should be a label with date of the last inspection. If it was more than 5 years ago or there is no label at all, give us a call or contact us at Matt Browning Electrical.

Lease your business premises? Don’t assume your landlord has this covered – many lease agreements require you to maintain the building, including the electrical installation – so get the benefit while you occupy the building, rather than having to do it when you move on. Even better, get an independent electrical inspection when you first negotiate the lease – so you know the electrics are safe and reliable from the start.

Matt Browning Electrical provides electrical installation and maintenance services for businesses and organisations. With over 25 years’ experience and based in Berkshire, we offer free initial consultations and fixed price quotes. We are NICEIC Approved Contractors, fully insured, trained to the latest standards, and our reports are recognised by all leading insurance companies. Our experienced team offer a pragmatic approach to support your business and understand your electrical systems. Where needed, we undertake electrical inspection & testing outside your normal working hours to avoid any disruption.

*Some electrical installations may require more frequent inspection depending on risk – industrial locations and swimming pools are examples. If in doubt, please get in touch at Matt Browning Electrical.

We supplied & installed LED lighting from Ansell and low glare lighting from Ovia in classroom areas. With automatic control through occupancy sensors and dimmable controls for the classroom, performance has improved whilst energy costs have reduced.
